Simplified clinician access to patient information on demand

Carefx offers NHS Trusts a unified view of essential patient data that is comprehensive, context-sensitive and clinician-specific. Over 400 individual healthcare systems have been connected by Carefx, bringing together rapid deployment and a deep understanding of the needs of NHS Trusts.

For clinicians, time spent gathering patient data from multiple clinical applications is not time well spent. Ideally, clinicians want to focus their time on patients not IT. By combining single sign-on (SSO) with Context Management clinicians are now able to easily log-on to and navigate multiple applications, and to locate and link patient data ensuring ease of use along with patient and application security.

Carefx is an excellent example of QIPP, the NHS framework providing strategic direction in 2010, made up of 4 key components - Quality, Innovation, Productivity and Prevention.  Under QIPP new IT solutions will only be accepted if they can be seen to improve the quality of healthcare offered, introduce innovative approaches, increase productivity and support the key principle: prevention today means less intervention tomorrow.

This seamless and powerful patient identity management solution is comprised of 2 key components – Imprivata One-Sign and the Context Management functionality of Fusion from Carefx.

Carefx allows  the clinician to  access the desktop, typically with a single user ID and password, creating direct access to fully functional applications. The applications synchronise and link the user, patient and episode within a patient record, or other data object. As the user changes, or switches to another patient or episode within a patient record, all remaining applications switch simultaneously.

Clinical applications have their own return on investment (RoI), however further RoI can be realised with the use of Clinician Context Management, which offers specific portals for clinicians and their roles. This means that the clinician has at their fingertips the information that they need.

Both clinicians and IT staff recognise immediate benefits:-

Clinicians find:-

  • Simplified access to patient information, whenever and wherever it is needed
  • Increased productivity by automatically streamlining clinical workflows and aggregating patient information from disparate applications, allowing more time with a patients
  • Improved clinical efficiency and patient safety by simplifying access to a patient’s complete clinical record, ensuring quality care

IT staff find:-

  • Enhanced application utilisation and return on investment
  • Quick deployment in a non-disruptive and cost-effective manner
  • Interoperability with leading applications

The result is a streamlined workflow, increased clinician reliance on applications, enhanced returns on IT investment and improved patient care.
