Single Sign-On

Single Sign-On

Single Sign-On (SSO) is becoming a standard element of the IT Security and  Information Governance Portfolio for a typical NHS Trust; and Imprivata OneSign has become the de facto standard as it is now being used in over 75 NHS Trusts, and being evaluated in many more.

The OneSign solution quickly and effectively solves password management, security and user access issues. ALL NHS applications can be enabled - legacy, client/server and web - without requiring any custom scripting, changes to existing directories, or inconvenient end-user workflow changes. The vast majority of NHS applications have already been enrolled into Imprivata’s extensive library.

Watch Zafar Chaudry, CIO at Liverpool Women's NHS Foundation Trust, talk about their recent implementation of the Imprivata OneSign solution.

Fitting neatly into the QIPP framework, Quality, Innovation, Productivity and Prevention, NHS Trusts are adopting Imprivata SSO as this is a solution that can improve the quality of healthcare offered, introduce innovative approaches, increase productivity and support the key principle: prevention today means less intervention tomorrow.

OneSign is easily deployed in a matter of days; its twin hardened appliances offer secure usersc2008 authentication and access management to IT networks, applications and IT/Building security.  Imprivata SSO helps NHS organisations improve security and compliance, whilst maximising user convenience and productivity. No further IT infrastructure is required at the outset, or as an ongoing cost, creating an affordable and recoverable investment.

Imprivata SSO works with the NHS National Smart cards and has been enrolled to more NHS applications than any other solution - it is becoming increasingly rare for an application to be encountered that has not already been seen in another organisation.

NHS Trusts are including Imprivata SSO in their IT Security strategy to:

  • Provide faster and easier secure access to clinical data
  • Enable Clinicians to use IT more effectively, therefore improving patient care
  • Reduce helpdesk resource and costs
  • Eliminate the need to remember passwords
  • Reduce the increasing burden on the IT helpdesk of multiple passwords
  • Strengthen the overall security of the network with strong authentication and complex passwords
  • Bring clinical applications within the AD environment, with full audit capability
  • Provide re-authentication of users as part of critical activities
  • Enable users to securely share a workstation by fast switching using an NHS Smart card
  • Review application licencing requirements
  • Provide both and physical access control

Imprivata & Clinical Context Management

Using a best-of-breed approach, Imprivata SSO combines with Fusion from Carefx to provide secure and simplified access to patient information regardless of where the information is stored.

Clinicians may spend over a quarter of their day gathering and organising patient data, and in diagnosing a patient clinicians often need to access multiple clinical applications, each with its own passwords and sign-on procedures. Imprivata SSO with Fusion from Carefx enables clinicians to spend less time on IT and more time on patient care.
